Flat Roof repair or replacement in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

Most dated flat roofs on extensions, dormers and outbuildings are finished with a bitumen felt which will eventually need replacing. The product is not well suited to repair as once it has started to deteriorate to a point where action is needed, it is more economically viable to replace with a much more modern product with a much longer product guarantee.

EPDM Rubber System

We are accredited to install a various number of flat roof products including EPDM Rubber which as a company we really like. Its long 30 year product guarantee is reassuring to our customers that their flat roof replacement was one worth doing. The EPDM is supplied in large sheets which usually means we are able to install in one piece. EPDM rubber should be applied to clean and dry OSB3 boarding with water based adhesive or if re roofing over an existing product such as mineral felt then contact adhesive must be used.

GRP Roofing Syetem

Glass Reinforced Polyester is a popular choice for roofs where their is foot traffic. It is extremely durable and has a life expectancy of 30 years. It is installed with an application of cold resin that is layered between fibreglass matting to create a waterproof and durable covering.

As with most construction projects, the success to a durable GRP roof is the preparation. Joists need to be in good condition with OSB3 boards clean and dry. Perimeter trims are installed to provide a neat finish around the edge of the roof.

A catalyst resin layer is put down on the OSB3 boards using a roller. Fibreglass reinforced matting which has been pre cut and shaped is then laid to the area. A second layer of resin in then put over the fibreglass matting. A paddle roller is then used to go over the area and eliminate any air bubbles which then make the surface completely water tight. After 60 – 90 minutes, once the resin is cured, a topcoat is applied which protects the laminate from UV damage and provides fire protection.

Polyurethane Liquid Roofing

Polyurethane Liquid Roofing is suitable for application onto timber, metal, plywood, bitumen and concrete. It is a popular choice for waterproofing flat roofs that have walkways or balconies and offers protection against corrosion. It is popular for waterproofing complicated roof types such as those with a lot of detail work.

Polyurethan Liquid Roofing is a single component liquid made up from pure Polyurethane which once catalysed forms a continuous elastic membrane without any joints, overlapping or integrated mesh needed.

Fascia and Guttering replacement in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

Fascia and Guttering replacement is general maintenance of a property. The fascia is connected to the roof trusses on the edge of the roof working to support the bottom course of tiles and carry the guttering. The fascia has two purposes, finishing the look of the house and protecting the interior from weather damage. Guttering is attached to the fascia board to collect the rainwater from the roof. It is vital that both the fascia and guttering are working otherwise you seriously risk damage.

Fascia boards can become rotten and discoloured and start to allow driving rain in. It is paramount that if a problem is suspected it is rectified as soon as possible. Allowing water into the roof space will cause problems to your roof timbers and ceilings. It risks mouldy patches occurring on the ceilings and tops of the internal walls.

Guttering is even more so important to rectify should a problem occur. It is responsible for handling the vast quantities of water your roof handles. If it has become old and brittle it may be leaking in the joints. After years of service it may even become out of level where it has sagged and not moving water as quickly and efficiently as it should.

Cotswold Roof Co. supply and install a vast range of different shapes, colours and finishes of fascia and guttering to properties in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

These include but not limited to:

Chimney Repairs in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

Chimneys are vulnerable to damage and leakage. Smoke contains acidic compounds which causes the mortar and masonry to weaken over time. Flashing around the chimney can also become loose and not fit for purpose meaning your chimney is allowing water ingress. This poses a big problem in the winter when frosts can fracture the chimneys brickwork and cause loose bricks to become dangerous.

The danger a chimney poses structurally depends on the severity of the brickwork damage and its position. Cotswold Roof Co. can perform a site visit to fully understand the damage. We use a drone to take photographs and recordings of the damage from the ground and then analyse the footage and how best to rectify. Cotswold Roof Co. are able to rake out and repoint the chimney or completely rebuild if no viable alternative is available.

A chimney may also be allowing water ingress because the flashing has either fallen away or perished. We are able to re dress any salvageable flashing or should the existing material be in such poor condition, install with new.

Valley Repairs in the Cotswolds, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.

A valley is formed where two parts of a roof meet.Water collects in the valley from both roof pitches and is formed to run into your guttering. The valley is a critical part of the roof as it carries vast amounts of water. Valleys are usually lined with Lead, meaning that it is prone to expanding and contracting in the summer months. This can then cause the lead to split, leaving your roof vulnerable to damage. Slipped tiles can also cause damage to the valley as it risks being punctured as the tile is dislodged.

When a valley fails, it will soon cause problems and will require prompt remedial action to prevent any internal damage. A temporary emergency repair should first be carried out,  applying flashing tape over  the split and covering this with an elastomeric paint such as Cromapol. A well applied ‘patch’ should last for a around a month so the only permanent solution is to re-line the valley in lead.
